Understorey

Understorey

Most of our local wildflowers are understorey plants, growing between the clumping lilies & grasses (which are also understorey plants) and the taller shrubs and trees. From mid winter to mid summer there is a continual succession of these lovely flowering  plants. These galleries will grow over time as we collect and upload more understorey from Gilberton. hp_GGWflowersHowever, over our hot dry summers, many of these smaller plants die back to tubers, bulbs or thickened roots, ready to sprout again with autumn rains. Here are some of our understorey plants in the Gilberton Woodland and Gilberton Ledge.
