FUNGI TALK 30.6.17 – BOOKINGS LIVE!

Bookings are now open to hear Fungimap’s Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher Public Talk on  “The Vital Importance of Fungi!” on  30th June, 2017 from 7.30 – 9pm at Vale Park Primary School.

As we of Vale Park Our Patch are beginning to realise, our myriad forms of fungi are of vital importance to our ecosystems including the bush, revegetation sites, farms and gardens. They largely determine soil structure and are major recyclers of nutrients. Amazingly, over 90% of Australian plants have symbiotic partnerships with soil fungi!!

In fact, our lovely native orchids are totally dependent on certain fungi to germinate naturally, and most are dependent on these fungi through out their lives.  N.B. In 2016, VPOP received two Civic Trust Awards for reintroducing up to twenty species of Native Orchids back onto the Adelaide Plains!

Realising this, through a NRM Action community  Grant, VPOP is sponsoring acclaimed fungi expert Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher from Fungimap to come to Adelaide for a series of midwinter events from 29th June to the 2nd July 2017.

Through Discovery Circle, bookings are now open to hear Sapphire’s Public Talk on  “The Vital Importance of Fungi!” on  30th June, 2017 from 7.30 – 9pm at Vale Park Primary School (in the School Gymnasium). Learn more about how fungi help to restore habitat (including enabling native orchids to grow) and how to ID & report fungi with Fungimap.
