Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the variety of all forms of life living together naturally.

Since 2000, Vale Park Our Patch has been working to improve our local riverside biodiversity (in appropriate plant associations where ever possible) and make the River Torrens Linear Park in Adelaide a much more effective wildlife corridor. We are thrilled with the results in biodiversity terms (including reintroducing 20 species of native orchid back to the Adelaide Plains) although, as usual, weeds are an on-going challenge!

Working with various partners, VPOP has planted over 30,000 locally native plants (most propagated ourselves). We have over 200 indigenous species growing at our various sites in several suburbs (60 of conservation significance) and wildlife sightings continue to improve each year.

Vale Park Our Patch have also developed many award-winning educational biodiversity resources used by a number of schools.
